Power Yoga classes

All classes begin with a short relaxation, followed by a sequence including Pranayama (breathing exercises), Sun Salutations, standing poses, balances, twists, forward bends, back bends and inversions. I provide guided relaxation at the end of every class to allow the body and mind to fully benefit from the Yoga practice.

Poses may differ in classes in order to build progression in line with the needs of each student but all follow Sun Power Yoga sequences. I give modifications and variations of each pose to enable students to progress at their own rate and practice poses safely. If you would like more information about how classes can be adapted to your needs, please contact me.

I encourage students to use blocks, belts and other props to enable exploration of poses and progression of their practice.

Yang to Yin Yoga classes

A fusion of dynamic Yang-style poses and flows and Yin Yoga poses. The class starts with strengthening practices to generate heat and work the muscles. It then moves to Yin Yoga poses to work the ligaments, joints, fascia and bones. An ideal practice to wind down for the evening!

Yin Yoga classes

Yin Yoga is a slow practice which works on the ligaments, joints, fascia and bones. It is ideal for anyone looking to increase flexibility and mobility – I’ve personally found it to be fantastic for releasing tension in problem areas such as the hips!

Being slow and still doesn’t mean that Yin Yoga is easy – it can be challenging and is not a restorative practice. Each pose is held for lengthy periods with the aim of releasing tension and cultivating a peaceful mind. It is a perfect complement to more Yang-style practices such as Power Yoga, Astanga, Vinyasa Flow and Iyengar Yoga.

If you would like to know more about Yin Yoga, I would recommend visiting YinYoga.com where my teacher Bernie Clark shares his in depth knowledge on its practice and philosophy.

Meditation

Meditation is a practice that involves focussing the mind to achieve a state of calm and clarity. It often involves techniques such as focussed breathing, mindfulness and visualisation to cultivate awareness and reduce stress.

Regular meditation can improve mental focus, emotional wellbeing and physical health, by promoting relaxation and enhancing self-awareness.

I often combine meditation with Chair Yoga to help prepare the body for being still. This gentle form of Yoga is practiced while seated or using a chair for support. It includes simple poses that help improve mobility, while also promoting relaxation and mental wellbeing.
